Trio, op. 244, for Clarinet in B, Viola and Piano

The Trio für Klarinette, Viola und Klavier was written in 2025. It has three movements - a very calm introductory movement, followed by a wild second movement that combines Boris Blacher's Variable Metres with the rhythmic drive and energy of Rock music. The Trio concludes with a Passacaglia on a twelve-note bass line that closes with a reminiscence of the first movement.
The Trio für Klarinette, Viola und Klavier is part of ViolaViva's growing educational catalogue of new repertoire for viola, organised in three series: First Steps Series, Moving Up Series and Mastery Series. A big thank you to Monika Zimmermann for providing bowing marks and fingering for the viola part!
