Tomás Lestán was the viola professor in the Royal Conservatory in Madrid (RCSMM) from 1885 to 1904, and also was 1st viola in the Royal Chapel Orchestra in Madrid since 1898 and 1st viola of the Royal Theatre Orchestra. He definitely contributed to the development of the viola in Spain, with his method, his didactic exercises and his Sonata for viola and piano from 1884.
